Why did you become a optometrist?

My mom’s vision challenges were a big reason I chose optometry. I have early memories of going to her eye appointments or waiting with my dad as she underwent another surgery. The positive impact that optometrist had on my mom’s quality of life influenced my decision to become an optometrist. My first job working as an assistant at an animal hospital also grew my interest in medicine and helping others with this knowledge. The fulfillment we felt as a team at the animal hospital was something I knew I wanted in my chosen career. And I’m thankful that I found that same sense of fulfillment as an optometrist.

Interesting Facts

My parents moved to Boulder in the 1970’s. I grew up in the “Republic of Boulder” before moving to Fort Collins for college and later Oregon for graduate school. My husband, also a Boulder native, started a camper van company so when I’m not practicing optometry I’m helping him build client’s custom campers. We spend most of our free time rock climbing with our “adventure” cat, she loves to go camping in our van, walking on a leash, and doing tricks for treats.
